Mary Ann Schaefer
Mary Ann Schaefer is excited to be part of the teaching staff at Dance Connection. She is currently beginning her second season with Indianapolis Ballet, under the direction of Victoria Lyras.
Ms. Schaefer was born in Memphis, TN, where at age nine, she took her first ballet classes at the Allegro Ballet Academy. After moving to Indianapolis, IN at age twelve she studied at the Clara R. Noyes Academy of Ballet Internationale until its closing in 2005. She continued her training under Alyona Yakovleva and Tatiana Pali at the Russian Ballet Academy of Indiana. She competed in Youth America Grand Prix 2005 2006 and in 2007, where she won first place in the classical division at the semifinals and was awarded a scholarship to Harid Conservatory of the Arts at the finals. At the Youth America Grand Prix finals 2009, she received a full scholarship to Ballet West’s summer intensive program in Salt Lake City, UT, and was then offered to stay on as trainee on full scholarship. In 2010 she competed at the World Ballet Competition in Orlando, FL making it to the final round as well as receiving a Jury Award. Mary Ann was invited to join Ballet West II in 2012 and after completing two years in the second company stayed on as a supplemental artist for Ballet West’s 2014-2015 season. In the fall of 2015 Mary Ann performed as a featured guest artist in “Pointe to the Cure” in Indianapolis and finished out the year performing The Nutcracker with Aspen Santa Fe Ballet under Artistic Director Tom Mossbrucker. She was a supplemental artist in Aspen Santa Fe Ballet’s Nutcracker for two seasons, as well as a member of The Suzanne Farrell Ballet for two seasons, where she had the honor of performing Balanchine Ballet’s at the Kennedy Center.
